The F-transforms have been successfully applied in image processing, data analysis and time series analysis during last years. We focus on approximation properties of the F-transform with respect to a generalized uniform fuzzy partition given by B-splines of odd degree. Let an interval [a, b] be fixed and k,N ∈ N. By A we denote the central B-spline of order 2k−1 with integer knots −k, . . . , k. Let h = (b−a)/(N+2k), ti = a + h (i + k), i = −k, . . . , N + k; then a = t−k < t0 < tN < tN+k = b. Functions A0, . . . , AN , where Ai(t) = A ((t− ti)/h), i = 0, . . . , N , form a (h, hk)-uniform generalized fuzzy partition of interval [a, b] in the sense of [3]. Our construction generalizes the commonly used uniform fuzzy partition given by a generating function of the triangular shape [2]. Our main result is as follows. Suppose that p is a polynomial, deg p ≤ 2k − 1 and m is a nonnegative integer s.t. 2m + 1 ≥ deg p. Then p coincides with its inverse F-transform (w.r.t. the (h, hk)-uniform generalized fuzzy partition based on B-splines of degree 2k− 1) F(p, ·) on interval [tk−1, tN−k+1]. Based on this result we obtain error estimations and prove that using B-splines improves the quality of approximation of a function by its inverse F-transform. If integers r,m satisfy 0 ≤ m ≤ k − 1, 1 ≤ r ≤ 2m + 2, then for f ∈ C[a, b] it holds that |f(x)−F(f, x)| ≤ O(h) for all x ∈ [tk−1, tN−k+1]. We consider the inverse F-transform in the context of local approximation methods given by splines and compare the obtained result with approximation properties of other local methods.

Moments and Fourier transforms of B-splines

The problem o f determining the moments and the Fourier transforms o f B-splines with arbitrary knots is considered. There exists a simple connect ion between the moments o f such splines and the so-called extended Stirling numbers o f the second kind which are defined in section 2. Some recurrence relations for the moments o f B-splines with arbitrary knots are given in section 3. In the case ...

Learning Splines for Sparse Tomographic Reconstruction

In a few-view or limited-angle computed tomography (CT), where the number of measurements is far fewer than image unknowns, the reconstruction task is an ill-posed problem. We present a spline-based sparse tomographic reconstruction algorithm where content-adaptive patch sparsity is integrated into the reconstruction process. The proposed method leverages closed-form Radon transforms of tensor-...

Interpolatory biorthogonal multiwavelet transforms based on Hermite splines

We present new multiwavelet transforms for discrete signals. The transforms are implemented in two phases: 1. Pre (post)processing which transform the scalar signal into the vector one (and back). 2.Wavelet transforms of the vector signal. Both phases are performed in a lifting manner. We use the cubic interpolatory Hermite splines as a predicting aggregate in the vector wavelet transform. We p...

A Higher Order B-Splines 1-D Finite Element Analysis of Lossy Dispersive Inhomogeneous Planar Layers

In this paper we propose an accurate and fast numerical method to obtain scattering fields from lossy dispersive inhomogeneous planar layers for both TE and TM polarizations. A new method is introduced to analyze lossy Inhomogeneous Planar Layers. In this method by applying spline based Galerkin’s method of moment to scalar wave equation and imposing boundary conditions we obtain reflection and...

Construction of Biorthogonal Discrete Wavelet Transforms Using Interpolatory Splines

We present a new family of biorthogonal wavelet and wavelet packet transforms for discrete periodic signals and a related library of biorthogonal periodic symmetric waveforms. The construction is based on the superconvergence property of the interpolatory polynomial splines of even degrees. The construction of the transforms is performed in a “lifting” manner that allows more efficient implemen...
